Scenic Sri Lanka - 6 Days and 5 Nights

Day 1

You will be warmly welcomed by your Country Travel Club associate at Bandaranaike International Airport and proceed Sigiriya. En-route you will visit the Elephant Orphanage and Sigiriya Lion Rock in the evening.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is where abandoned and lost elephants live. Here you can see the largest herd of elephants in the world. Established in 1975 with five elephants, there are now about 65 elephants living in Pinnawala. The main attraction here is observing the elephants bathing in the river.

Sigiriya is the Lion rock palace of King Kashyapa located in the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. The frescoes, mirror wall and the gardens (water gardens, boulder gardens and terraced gardens) take a special place in Sigiriya attractions. This is one of the most visited historic sites in Sri Lanka.

Day 2

After Breakfast we proceed to Polonnaruwa. This is the second most ancient of Sri Lankan kingdoms. Polonnaruwa is the best place to see spectacular examples of Sri Lankan Architecture. This is well displayed at Gal Viharaya, King Palace, Image House and Lankathilaka Image House. It also is one of the cleanest and more beautiful cities in Sri Lanka.

In the evening visit Minneriya National Park for a wildlife safari. Minneriya is famous for Sri Lankan elephants. You can see hundreds of wild elephants together on the Lake surrounds during the dry season in July and August.

Overnight stay at Sigiriya.

Day 3

After Breakfast proceed to Kandy. En-route visit Dambulla Golden Temple, Herbal Garden and Temple of Tooth Relic and Cultural Show in the evening.

Visit the world heritage site, Golden Temple of Dambulla. There are five shrine rooms where you can see statues and paintings which are related to Lord Buddha and his life. In total there are 153 Buddha statues, 3 Sri Lankan king statues and 4 statues of gods and goddesses.

Visit the sacred Temple of Tooth Relic, built within the royal palace complex, which houses the only surviving relic of Buddha. A two-storey inner shrine fronted by two large elephant tusks preserves the Tooth Relic. Kandy was named as a UNESCO Heritage site mainly due to the religious and cultural significance of the Temple of the Tooth.

Watch Kandy Cultural Dance Show where you can experience both traditional dancing and music. This will be a fetching moment which will never leave your memory.

Day 4

After Breakfast Proceed to Nuwara Eliya. En-route visit Ramboda Waterfall, Tea Factory and Plantation. You can visit a century old Ceylon Tea Factory and enjoy a Cup of Tea.

Nuwara Eliya which has a picturesque landscape and temperate climate and is referred to as ‘Little England’. Nuwara Eliya is located in the hill country, in central Sri Lanka.

Day 5

Visit Horton Plains, leaving from your hotel, with take away breakfast, for an early start at 5am. The Horton Plains National Park is a beautiful, silent, strange world with some excellent hikes to World’s End and Baker’s Falls. In the evening walk around the city and Gregory Lake.

Day 6

Departure to meet your flight at Bandaranaike International Airport in Negombo.

Start your day with the freshness of the cool breeze and a visit to Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden which is noted for its rich and varied collections of tropical plants.

A two-storey inner shrine fronted by two large elephant tusks preserves the Tooth Relic. Visit Yala National Park early in the morning.

Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka. The park is well known for an abundance of Sri Lankan elephants, Sri Lankan leopards and aquatic birds.

Sinharaja Forest Reserve is a national park and a biodiversity hotspot in Sri Lanka. It is of international significance and has been designated a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

After Breakfast Proceed to Galle.

Day 9

Leisure in the Morning on the Beach and visit Dutch Walled City of Galle in the evening.

It is believed that Galle is the ancient seaport ‘Tarshish’ from which King Solomon drew ivory and other valuables. It has been the most prominent seaport before the western rule of the country.
